The Place Where Time Begins / The Father of Medicine

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

Here we are with two new “Living Books for the Ears” programs for you! This week…

This story has nothing to do with the beginning of the world, which the title might lead you to believe. Rather it has to do with the beginning of the DAY. You see, every day time begins atop a small hill in Grenwich Park in England… the site of
Grenwich Observatory, the starting place of the hours. Here’s the fascinating  story of why and how Grenwich became
the focal point for our reckoning of time.

Next, we travel back to ancient Greece, and learn the story of Hippocrates,  who first separated the science of medicine
from  superstition and philosophy — and became the forerunner of the  modern physician. (Just give a listen to
the weird superstitions folks once had about the causes of their illness…  what a hoot!)

Here’s the link for you…

The Snow Goose / Mr. President

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Hi folks,

This week we have two great stories for you…

The first, set in wartime Britain, is Paul Gallico’s classic tale of heroism “The Snow Goose”.

The second, a great episode of “Mr. President” as we find out which President liked taking walks in the swamps surrounding Washington DC at night to “lose” his bodyguards… and who faced a murderous armed intruder in the Oval Office.
